As an addition to the last post about conveniently linking your BVN to every other account in other banks, it thought it would only be fair to do something for the ‘International Guys’. So here it is…
As stated on the OIS (Online Integrated Solutions) website
In partnership with Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS), OIS Services has introduced BVN enrolment service to our centers to make your life easier!
Bank Verification Number (BVN) is a scheme introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to protect customers’ transactions and enhance confidence in the Nigerian banking sector. It involves identifying an individual based on physiological or behavioural attributes, such as fingerprint, signature and others. The customers unique BVN is accepted as a means of identification across all the banking system.
The importance of BVN has grown as increased lapses have been identified on conventional security systems such as token, password and Personal Identification Number (PIN) of customers.
Though the CBN require all Nigerian bank customers to enrol, there are benefits to having your BVN registrations:
BVN gives a unique identity that can be verified across the Nigerian Banking Industry (not peculiar to one Bank) and is accepted as a means of identification across ALL Nigerian Banks.
BVN will address issues of identity theft, thus protect Customers Bank Accounts from unauthorized access and exposure to fraud.
BVN will enhance the Banking Industry, since blacklisted customers would be easily identified, this would sequentially encourage retail lending by mitigating identification and tracking issues.
